Music when I'm depressed

I've been dealing with recurrent episodes for a long while now and music is one thing that helps me get through them. I don't gravitate towards it as much, but when I do, it's pretty calming. I tend to listen more to specific artists during episodes and I'd talk about them for a bit.

  1. Chelsea Cutler

I started listening to her around 2018. I connected to her almost instantly. She used to do collaborations with Quin XCII and I decided to explore her solo titles outside of that. She writes a lot of sad songs that feels like they were written for me lol. I don't think there's an artist that I've encountered that soothes me to the extent that she does.

Some of my favourite tracks of hers:

2. Lorde

While Lorde is my favourite artist, I still rate Chelsea Cutler over her when it comes to songs that help me during my episodes. I've been listening to Lorde since 2015. I loved her sound almost instantly and she used to be my go to before I found Chelsea. Lorde writes music for me, and then for other people. But primarily for me. I love a lot of her songs but I'd share a few that I gravitate to during an episode

3. Coldplay

They're one of the bands that I've listened to the longest. Way longer than I've listened to All Time Low. I'm a big fan of two of their albums - Ghost Stories and A Head Full of Dreams. Both had incredible production directions and also have an ample collection of sad songs which include some of the following:

4. Other honourable mentions

  • Santigold: I discovered her from watching a show back in 2020 and I've loved her ever since. Also found out that she made a song I loved growing up that was featured in 17 Again.

  • Phoebe Ryan: I don't gravitate to her as much but she has songs that also help get me through sad times
  • Hey Violet: I was sad when I found out that they disbanded in 2024
