Not been able to get any writing done in a while, and now that I'm dealing with a bad episode, it might probably help me just express myself.
I'm going to be talking of some random interests that I've had since childhood, starting with the one that's jarring and maybe moving on to the more tame ones
Snakes
This I owe to PJ. I remember the day like it was yesterday. I was on my way back from the eye clinic following a routine checkup and she was talking about a ball python she had as a pet before coming back to the country. She sent me a few pictures of some cute ones and the next thing I know, my FYP on tiktok is filled with snakes content for months. I learn a lot about constrictors and venomous snakes. I learn about snakes I didn't know existed, like the blue insularis, or the desert horned viper, the inland taipan, the eastern brown. Snakes I'd rather avoid but also fascinating to learn about.
I learned that reticulated pythons and African rock pythons can target humans. Reticulated pythons especially. Learned that boomslangs bites cause your blood to stop clotting and leading you to bleed from multiple parts of your body. Scary, but fascinating, right?
I did consider getting a ball python as pet for a very long period. They can't harm me, and they don't require as much maintenance as dogs or cats and they are also very cute. The problem with that is finding a Nigerian landlord that's okay with it. I could probably convince my partners to let me get one though
Piccolos
This was probably in SS2. I needed to find something to do and I settled on learning on a musical instrument. I have this thing where I like to pick less popular things up to learn or consume and a piccolo fit the bill to a tee. I got the mouthpiece for one to learn the breath patterns needed to play one and figured out that I sucked at it no matter what I did. Ended up damaging the piece and together with it, my interest in the instrument. I'd say the interest lasted about a month.
Cords
This has been an ongoing interest for well over a year. I just love buying USB cords. Can't get enough of them. Every time I'm getting groceries, I always have to stop myself from adding cords to my cart and I sometimes succeed. But now, I have more cords than I have need for. This probably started from an interest I had in extension boxes and then when I stopped that, my brain needed an outlet and cords were a safe bet.
Blood Sausages
This I fell in love with the first time I had it and I've talked about it multiple times, and who's going to stop me? No one. No one!!!. Anyways, this has been a long standing interest for me and a craving I've not satisfied in a bit. I also love trying to convince people to eat it just so that they can enjoy what I enjoy. Maybe one day, I'd succeed.
Condoms
For someone who rarely has sex, I love to collect and experiment with condoms. I explored a lot more in 2021. Used to walk into my primary supermarket and pick condoms at random just to try them on when I got home. Now, I just buy a bunch of condoms I don't use and keep them in one of my drawers. Who knows, maybe I'd turn into a distributor some day.
Plushies
Spent 2024 collecting these. I think I still have an interest in this, and the only reason that I stopped buying them was because they were taking so much space on the bed, that I was close to either sleeping on the floor or sleeping on the couch. I'd probably resume this when I get a bigger space. They could have their own room too.
Anyways, I avoided talking about more specific interests like planes and games as those are going to keep on being my interests. Just wanted to talk about some other interests instead. Hopefully, I can write more going forward.
