What she really wanted

I asked her what she wanted, and thought she’d say me,

I asked her what she wanted, and thought she’d say me,

She said she wanted to see the world, explore, and be free,

To be able to afford anything she’d ever dreamed

She said she wanted a family, she’d cherish and adore,

One she’d come to love, and protect till the very end,

She said she wanted to be a light everyone would adore,

One they’d always reach out to, in their darkest days.

I tried to ask her again what she really wanted, and hoped she’d say me,

She said she wanted to reach for the sky, to reach further than anyone ever could,

She wanted to break down the barriers that stood in her way, to tear them down and not let them stay,

She wanted to leave a mark that people would remember her by,

And they’d always be like, ‘Hey, we’d never seen someone who reached so high’,

I wanted to ask her again what she wanted, hoping she’d say me,

She then looked into my eyes and said, ‘I’d really need you by my side, every step of the way.’
